Use your 3DNS Domain for a Bluesky Handle

A quick tutorial for how to setup your 3DNS handle on Bluesky

Step 1: Go to settings and click "Change Handle"

Begin by logging into your Bluesky account. On the left side, you'll find your profile icon or picture. Below this, you'll need to select "Settings". This section allows you to customize various aspects of your account, but today we're focusing on your handle.

Step 2: Click "I have my own domain"

Within the Settings menu, you'll find an option titled "Change Handle." Clicking on this will present you with two choices. To use a domain you own, select "I have my own domain." This option is perfect for those looking to establish or maintain their brand consistency across the internet.

Step 3: Type in the handle you want to use

Once you've selected to use your own domain, a field will appear where you can type in the desired handle. This handle should match your domain name to maintain brand coherence. After entering your handle, Bluesky will generate TXT records specifically for your domain. Copy these records—you'll need them for the next step.

Step 4: Add your TXT record.

If you don't have records set already, you'll need to add back in the parking page records set by default. Here they are below for your convenience.

HostTypeValue

www

CNAME

@

ALIAS

redirect.3dns.box

If you're setting this up for the first time, ensure no previous TXT records conflict with what you're about to add.

Step 5: Head back to Bluesky to verify your domain — you'll be notified in a few minutes after updating the records on the Bluesky Dashboard

Conclusion

Customizing your handle with your own domain not only enhances your online presence but also aligns your Bluesky identity with your broader digital footprint. By following these steps, you can ensure a seamless integration of your personal or brand domain with Bluesky, making your social media experience more cohesive and recognizable.
